Legal Compliance Advisor, Individual Dental Operations - Cigna Healthcare - Remote

Position Summary

The Legal Compliance Advisor is responsible for supporting regulatory compliance, governance, and implementation activities for the Individual Dental business. This role serves as a key operational partner to ensure federal and state regulatory requirements are accurately assessed, documented, communicated, implemented, and monitored across the Individual Dental organization.

The Legal Compliance Advisor partners closely with Product, Operations, Government Affairs, Legal, Enterprise Compliance, Portfolio, Quality, and vendor partners to support regulatory readiness, ongoing compliance execution, risk mitigation, and operational governance. This role is accountable for coordinating regulatory implementation activities, maintaining compliance documentation and evidence, monitoring regulatory obligations, supporting audits and examinations, and identifying opportunities to strengthen compliance processes and controls.

The position plays a critical role in ensuring Individual Dental maintains a sustainable and scalable regulatory compliance framework that supports business objectives while meeting regulatory and contractual obligations.

Core Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance Management

  • Monitor federal and state regulatory requirements impacting the Individual Dental business.
  • Assess new and evolving regulatory requirements to determine operational, product, process, and customer impacts.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to ensure regulatory requirements are implemented timely and accurately.
  • Coordinate regulatory implementation activities across operational and matrixed business partners.
  • Support ongoing compliance with applicable regulatory, contractual, and business requirements.

New Law Implementation (NLI) Governance

  • Serve as a key participant in New Law Implementation processes supporting Individual Dental products.
  • Analyze regulatory instructions and facilitate identification of impacted business areas.
  • Coordinate implementation activities, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder engagement associated with regulatory changes.
  • Maintain documentation supporting regulatory assessments, implementation decisions, and compliance evidence.
  • Monitor implementation progress and escalate risks, issues, or barriers impacting compliance readiness.

Compliance Documentation & Evidence Management

  • Maintain compliance documentation, regulatory inventories, process documentation, and evidence repositories.
  • Coordinate collection, validation, and retention of documentation supporting regulatory compliance activities.
  • Ensure compliance evidence is appropriately documented and available for audit, examination, or regulatory review.
  • Support governance activities associated with compliance management systems and regulatory tracking tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve documentation standards, consistency, and accessibility.

Regulatory Risk & Controls Oversight

  • Identify and evaluate regulatory risks impacting the Individual Dental business.
  • Partner with business owners to develop mitigation strategies and corrective action plans.
  • Track compliance risks, issues, and remediation activities through resolution.
  • Support monitoring activities designed to identify compliance gaps and control weaknesses.
  • Communicate regulatory risks, trends, and emerging concerns to leadership and business partners.

Product Availability Grid & Regulatory Governance

  • Support governance and maintenance of Product Availability Grids and other regulatory reference materials.
  • Validate alignment between regulatory requirements, filed products, operational processes, and business documentation.
  • Partner with Product, Filing, and Operational teams to ensure regulatory consistency across business artifacts.
  • Coordinate updates resulting from new regulatory requirements, business changes, or product modifications.
  • Support ongoing accuracy, completeness, and governance of regulatory documentation.

Audit, Examination & Regulatory Inquiry Support

  • Support preparation activities for audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance reviews.
  • Coordinate information gathering and documentation requests associated with regulatory inquiries.
  • Maintain organized records supporting audit readiness and compliance validation.
  • Track examination findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure timely responses and issue resolution.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Regulatory Consultation

  • Serve as a regulatory compliance subject matter expert for Individual Dental operations.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to business partners regarding regulatory requirements and implementation considerations.
  • Facilitate collaboration across Operations, Product, Compliance, Legal, Quality, Technology, and vendor organizations.
  • Build strong relationships that support effective regulatory communication and execution.
  • Support strategic initiatives requiring regulatory assessment or compliance input.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Identify opportunities to improve regulatory compliance processes, workflows, controls, and documentation practices.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of compliance-related issues and recommend sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support development and implementation of new compliance processes and governance structures.
  • Leverage data, trends, and operational insights to improve regulatory readiness and compliance effectiveness.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational performance and oversight.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, healthcare operations, insurance operations, legal compliance, risk management, governance, audit, or related disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements within healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting regulatory implementation, compliance programs, audits, examinations, or governance activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex cross-functional initiatives and drive execution through matrixed organizations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess regulatory impacts and operational risks.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and managing compliance documentation and evidence.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with regulatory tracking, risk management, governance, or compliance management systems preferred.
  • Healthcare, dental, insurance, or regulated industry experience strongly preferred.

Identifies opportunities to improve compliance effectiveness, operational efficiency, and governance practices.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 96,200 - 160,400 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
